So You Want to Be a Scout |

Founded in 2001, Troop 462 is chartered by the Boy Scouts of America to offer a unique scouting experience with emphasis on character development, citizenship and fitness. Leadership positions are afforded to older and more experienced boy scouts thus providing important growth opportunities. Our sponsor is the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church which provides us with a meeting place and offers their support to the unit. Troop 462 is part of the Columbia Gorge District, which is our local Scouting district. The Columbia Gorge District is part of a larger council, the Cascade Pacific Council stretching from as far north as Longview, Washington to as far south as Salem, Oregon and from the Pacific Ocean to Skamania County and The Dalles. From the Cascade Pacific Council, we receive program information, use of camps, literature, and leader training. Regular troop meetings are planned and conducted under the guidance of the Scoutmaster and his assistants. This is part of the plan to help your child grow, make decisions, and take an active part in making the troop program successful. Troop 462 is very fortunate to have many interesting and experienced adult mentors and leaders who permit the scouts to run the troop with little intervention.
Our Troop meets 3 or 4 Monday evenings a month from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Holy Redeemer Parish, unless otherwise indicated. The 1st Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. (prior to a regular troop meeting) is devoted to the Patrol Leader Council (PLC). A typical troop meeting includes a game or two, work on outdoor skills, first aid, fitness, citizenship, or some other aspect of Scouting, as well as a brief patrol meeting for advancement progress or for planning a future outing. Interested parties should contact the Scout Master. Encompasses the activities we do for fun and the recognition we get in the form of ceremonies, awards, rank advancement and/or merit badges.
Apart from the weekly troop meetings and special activities we sometimes have the opportunity to get together with other troops in our district or with those from afar. Highlights include, but are not limited to, Camporee, Scoutrageous, Summer Camp and the National Jamboree. |
