ARMAND BAYOU: Armand Bayou Nature Center is currently offering Cub Scout Workshops, Eagle Scout Projects, and Merit badge requirements. HOUSTON ARBORETUM: The Houston Arboretum & Nature Center is located at 4501 Woodway. Many Sunday afternoons, the Nature Center offers a free, informal program about various nature topics. Presentations vary from lectures to walks to hands-on demonstrations. There are also accommodations for you to run a nature-themed event on their property. For more information visit their site.
HOUSTON MUSEUM OF NATURAL SCIENCES: Fall classes are now open - hurry to register, because they fill extremely fast. Wolves and Bears can now earn the Astronomy, Geology, Science, and Weather Belt Loops and Pins. Webelos pin classes will be held for Engineer, Forester, Geologist, Naturalist, and Scientist. MUSEUM OF HEALTH:  The McGovern Museum of Health and Medical Sciences has various Scout classes for a fee. Check their site for more information. If you have questions, email Habib Irshad.
MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS - HOUSTON: Located at Bissonnet at Montrose, youth admission is free on weekends with a valid public library card. A new exhibit opening October 10 is on American Indians: "In the 1830's, George Caitlin followed the trail of Lewis and Clark expedition, determined to capture history by recording the manners and customs of Native Americans. ....one of the most important collections at the Smithsonian American Art Museum." FISHING: The newly re-built and re-stocked McGovern Lake at Hermann Park (next to the zoo) is open for free, catch-and-release fishing for those ages 12 and under, or 65 and older. You can angle for channel catfish, largemouth bass, and bluegill sunfish. Send your browser here for a map.
