The Franklin Parish Catfish Festival, held the second Saturday in April, is the largest one-day festival in the state, with an estimated 40,000 attendees celebrating the Franklin Parish Catfish Industry. This annual event features over 300 arts, crafts, and food booths. Entertainment stages run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m and include gospel, country music and blues groups. The festival covers a six square block area. Featured exhibits include an art show and a quilt show.
The Franklin Parish Catfish Festival is a non-profit organization, and all of the work is performed on a volunteer basis. The festival was established to promote the Franklin Parish Catfish Industry.
The weekend of the Catfish Festival is a very busy weekend for Troop 53. We park cars ALL OVER Winnsboro. This is our main fundraiser for the troop. So "all hands on deck" is our motto. Scouts, parents, and even friends of scouts help. We start Friday afternoon roping off the parking lots. Then the work begins Saturday morning 6:30 A.M. sharp and winds down about 2:00 P.M. The work is hard, but very rewarding. Finally, Sunday morning about 6:30 A.M. we finish out the weekend cleaning up the parking lots and some of the festival area for the town. This really makes for an exhausting weekend, but we'll be ready to go again next April. See you at the Catfish Festival.
