HELPING THE BLACK BEAR
at the
TENSAS RIVER NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE

We went to the Tensas Wildlife Refuge to complete our 10 service hours for our 50 Miler patch that we applied for at Philmont Scout Ranch. Bailey Martin, Rodney Smith, Justin Robinson, and Nick Cannady were the scouts that went to work on their patch. Hudson Smith and Noah Martin also attended and acheived seven service hours to go towards their rank advancement. The leaders that went were Mr. Kelly Martin, Mr. Howie Robinson, and Dr. Roger Smith.

Our first few hours of work were done building and painting bear boxes. These are used to relocate mother bears and preferrably their cubs as well. Our last hours were done clearing a walking trail. It was 4 miles long and we were all exhausted by the end of the day. Work wasn't all we did on the campout though. As on all of our campouts we had time to run around and explore and talk and such. I believe we all enjoyed the campout.
