Since 1930, the Boy Scouts of America has helped younger boys through Cub Scouting.
It is a year-round family program designed for boys who are in the first grade through fifth grade (or 7, 8, 9, and 10 years of age).
The ten purposes of Cub Scouting are:

Character Development Spiritual Growth
Good Citizenship Sportsmanship and Fitness
Family Understanding Respectful Relationships
Personal Achievement Friendly Service
Fun and Adventure Preparation for Boy Scouts

The Cub Scout Program has two basic features,   Rank Advancement   and the Academics and Sports Program.

Tiger Cub Scouts
Parents are most involved at the Tiger Cub Level. The boy and his parent or guardian join the den together and attend all meetings & activities together.
Each den has a Tiger Club Den Leader, who usually is one of the parent, who helps coordinate the meetings. The parent-son teams take turns running the activities and planning meetings with the Tiger Club Den Leader.
With 5 achievement areas, the Tiger Cub and his adult partner work to earn the Tiger Cub badge and will graduates to...

Wolf Cub Scouts
Boys who have completed the 1st grade (or age 8) may join a Wolf Den.
Parents are vital to the Cub Scout Dens, both in the role of home support and to help the den leader, but their sons are beginning to be more independent, and not every boy needs a parent at every meeting. In addition to the Den Leader, there is often a Den Chief, an older Boy Scout or Venturer who helps the den leader.
To earn the wolf badge, a boy must pass 12 achievements involving simple physical and mental skills.

Bear Cub Scouts
Boys who completed 2nd grade (or age 9) may join a Bear Den.
Den meetings are run similar as Wolves' meetings. The boy works closely with parents, leaders, and other boys to complete 12 achievements in four areas to earn the Bear badge.
These requirements are somewhat more challenging and difficult than those required for the Wolf badge.

Webelos Scouts     We'll be Loyal Scouts!
This is a two year program for boys who have completed third grade (or age 10).
This is the transition from the Cub Scouts to the Boy Scouts. As he completes the requirements in the Webelos book,
he will work on activity badges and become familiar with Boy Scout requirements - all leading to the Arrow of Light award.
A second year Webleos graduates to Boy Scouts.

Pack Meetings
The Cub Scout pack is made up of all the dens, which meet monthly at the pack meeting, led by the Cubmaster. This is the climax of the monthly den meetings and activities. There are games, skits, songs, ceremonies, and presentations of badges that boys earned during the month. This is where families - not just parents, but siblings, too - can see the achievements of their Cub Scouts.
