The Troop: We are a scout-led troop that is based on
the patrol-method. The troop was started over 30 years ago and
currently has about 70 scouts in the troop.
The scouts range from age 11 to 17.
We currently have 4 regular patrols, 2 new scout patrols
and a staff patrol. Each patrol has their own gear box and
tents. Meetings:
We
meet every Wednesday at
Outings: We have at least one outing each month and our troop enjoys having a wide variety of outings. The scouts establish the calendar twice a year after we elect the new Senior Patrol Leader during a planning meeting. Check out the calendar to see what we have in store. You can also check out our Past Events to see get a small sample of some of our past outings.
Special Outings: Some
of the high ventures and special outings are a week-long white
water canoeing trip on the
Advancement: We have an active Trail to First Class program, but the emphasis is on learning the skills with advancement coming as a result of that knowledge. To support the T2FC program, we have two Assistant Scoutmasters, troop guides and Junior Assistant Scoutmasters helping new scouts learn skills. Only the Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster and Junior Assistant Scoutmasters can sign of on requirements to ensure that the scout has adequately mastered the skill. We have a new scout outing in late April so that new scouts can earn their Totin’ Chip and Firem’n Chit cards along with learning some of the basic Tenderfoot and 2nd Class requirements.
Scouts
who have achieved First Class have many opportunities to work on
Merit Badges, Service Projects, and serve in Leadership
positions to continue their advancement. To date, the troop has
over 50 scouts that have attained the rank of Eagle.
Membership: The troop is not directly affiliated with
any pack although we get many cubs from Pack 415 and Pack 492 as
well as other packs from
Adult Leadership:
Currently, there are six ASMs along with our Scoutmaster. All of
our adult leaders have earned the trained patch. Five of the
leaders have attended Woodbadge and four of them are the Eagles.
We have an active troop committee that meets on the 1st
Wednesday of each month, concurrently with the troop meeting.
Youth Leadership: Developing leadership skills is important and the troop hosts annual Junior Leader Training as well as supplemental leadership training. Leadership training begins after a scout reaches First Class. We also encourage eligible scouts to attend a local National Youth Leadership Training courses such as Bristlecone and White Stag.
